One of the most frequently asked questions is "How do I choose the right puppy for me?".
I am going to try and make this as straight forward as I can. Choosing the right puppy does not start while your standing in front of a litter of puppies. Finding the right gun dog puppy starts with finding a litter with the right sire and dam. But I am not talking about the number of titles behind and dogs name. I am refering to the health genetics of the sire and dam.
Do your research before you buy a puppy. Save yourself the heartaches of having to deal with the a problem by not dealing with the genetics that could cause it. Look for litters with a sire and dam with excellent health records.
Pick a breeder who has proven and credible reputation for producing a healthy pup both genetically for health and performance. Take the time and consider what your pup will be expected to do. If your looking for a gun dog for pheasant look for proven blood lines in this. If you want a good solid duck and goose hunting dog pick dogs with proven blood lines in that.
Health records to look for OFA Hips, Eye Cerfs, EIC, CNM.
